Glen Road Organics
In August I traveled to Woodville, Ontario to take some headshots and branding content of Nicole at The Glen Road Organics, a certified organic farm that focuses on sustainability, soil health, research, and regenerative agriculture. The goal was to give them a portfolio of photos that they can rely on whenever they need something for their website, social media, or other advertising, as well as to take headshots of Nicole. And also for me to get a tour of the farm, which I’ve been interested in since Nicole started working there a few years ago.
It was a super hot and sunny day, and we started in their market garden where they grow produce and flowers sold in local markets and stores. The plants here range from super sized squash down to little bachelor button flowers, for a gorgeous assortment of colour and purpose. The Glen Road Organics has spent years working on their farm’s soil health, and the crops grown there reflect the time and care they put into everything. For me, the highlight was definitely the quinoa. I’d never considered how it was grown, but the reddish seeds on the tall stalks were so stunning, I could have spent most of my day just taking photos of quinoa alone. I loved it so much, it served as the background for Nicole’s headshots, so she can show off her hard work!
Then we went on to the back of the farm, to see how the compost is made. I can’t say I had a lot of knowledge about compost before this, and seeing the rows in various stages was really interesting. The compost made by The Glen Road Organics is a labour of love, reflecting their belief that you should leave the land better than you found it. Sadly we couldn’t be there for turning the compost, but I’m happy to save something for my next visit. I’m so grateful that I get to travel around and take photos not only of exceptionally cool people like Nicole, but of places like The Glen Road Organics that are working to make our world a little bit better.
